This Week in Great Music – 10/12 – 10/18

This week is incredibly quiet for music in Chicago. Maybe everyone is turning Columbus Day into a whole week of holiday, I don’t know.  Lucinda Williams has her three-night residency at Park West, where she’s covering material from throughout her career on each night.  Lincoln Hall opens this Friday, with Mike Doughty kicking things off.  And Wilco hits Chicago again, with a sold out show at the UIC Pavillion.

Not on the list (because they’re not Chicago shows) but explaining where I’ll be instead of at any of the interesting Chicago shows this weekend, are Andrew Bird’s shows on Friday and Saturday at Milwaukee’s Pabst Theatre.  Friday is Bird with his full band, and Dosh opening, and Saturday will be a solo show, with St. Vincent opening.  Both nights are being filmed, so they should be two very special nights.  I’ll be sure to make myself look very pretty for the cameras.

and of course it’s ‘quiet’ as i’ll roll back through. damn. will you be seeing lucinda? is that a nice venue? sure would have been nice to catch the Bird shows but i have to get back home.

    • I won’t be at the Lucind a shows… wanted to check them out, but I already blew the concert budget on my trip to Milwaukee for Andrew Bird. ;) Park West is a decent venue. Not my favorite in the city, but definitely not bad. It’s a nice mid-sized place, different options for seating/standing, and they usually attract a pretty good range of performers. Drink prices are a little high, but that’s pretty much how it is at every concert venue in the city.
