Another band for you to possibly check out The Crawdiddies. A little different sound, but very enjoyable. My father is the washboard man.

Yeah — I need to dig deeper into their audiovisual work, because one of the things I also really like about what they’re doing is that it’s multidimensional, and I want to see how they subvert and reclaim images as well as music.

I’d followed the Williams case from his death to the present — I read The Stranger — so hearing “Woodcarver” was familiar, but still difficult. It also adds a dimension that pictures and words (and internet comment threads of varying degrees of horrifying) alone can’t create — but it’s still important context, I think, especially for folks who may not have heard about Williams’s death and memorial efforts.

This is really fabulous stuff. Like you said, I really like the fact that this collective is reclaiming something that’s theirs, taking their heritage and putting a meaningful, modern spin on it.

The track “Woodcarver” is difficult to listen to, but something with that much backstory shouldn’t be easy to hear.
