Wow, That’s a Good Song: The Gentle Guest, “Darlin’ Darla”

By Sarah on January 21, 2010

A drunken almost-sea-shanty. Raise a pint, let the beer slosh and splash around, sway drunkenly with a stranger while you sing a plaintive request to your love. I don’t know where I first heard of The Gentle Guest, but I’m sad that it’s taken this long to find them.

I come dressed in my Sunday’s best
Darla, put on your little black dress
I come dressed in my Sunday’s best
Be still my heart, buried deep in my chest

Darla, give me your answer please
Don’t make me get down and beg on my knees
Darla, give me your answer please
You could kill a man dead, the way you flirt and you tease
