This Week in Great Music: 4/26 - 5/2
I can safely say that there's a show every night this week that I want to be at. I'm not going to make any predictions of where I'll actually show up, though, because that's just asking for me to spend all week sitting at the computer and playing Plants vs. Zombies.
Concert Review: The xx with Nosaj Thing, Lincoln Hall
The xx are a young band: singers Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim are just 20 years old, and they only have one full length album under their belts. But on stage, their performance is smooth, solid, and mature beyond their years, showing exactly why they've been generating a lot of buzz over the past year or so.
Wow, That's a Good Song: Tom Brosseau, "You Don't Know My Friends"
Dear Mr. Brosseau,I don't like watermelon, either. Let's be friends.
Chicago Folk and Roots Festival: July 10 and 11
The Old Town School of Folk Music has released the main stage lineup for its 13th Annual Chicago Folk & Roots Festival, which will be taking place July 10th and 11th up in Welles Park (Lincoln & Montrose).
Concert Review: Fanfarlo, with Robert Francis and Lawrence Arabia, Lincoln Hall
It goes without saying that the sold out crowd at Lincoln Hall absolutely loved Fanfarlo, the London-based indie rock quintet. Their album Reservoir was one of my favorites of 2009, so I was glad to get the chance to see them live, finally.
Taste of Chicago Music Schedule
But Taste of Chicago isn't just about eating until you don't think you can move anymore. There's also always a fantastically eclectic mix of live bands playing, and it's all free.
March in Review
Know what kind of snuck up on me? The end of the month. So much so that March has already been over for a good while before I realized that I needed to post it. Anyhow, here's your monthly widget of awesome songs that have caught my attention.
Hooray for Covers! Bangin', "Telephone" and "Bad Romance"
Like Lady Gaga but wish it were less techno dance-hall beats? Like hard rock or maybe even metal but harbor a secret love for top 40 pop? Then check out these two covers, put together by a couple of guys from Toronto well schooled in metal and heavy music.
Concert Review: Angel Taylor and Green River Ordinance, Lincoln Hall 3/31
The 22-year old Taylor's music is full of heartbreak, warnings against mean boys who will break your heart, and longing for meeting that special someone and falling in love.
Lollapalooza 2010 Lineup
In case you took an internet hiatus overnight, here's some "news" for you: Lollapalooza's lineup for the 2010 festival has been released in full, including all the letters and &s and *'s, because god forbid they write out Fuck Buttons on their website.
